Upper Darby Recreation provides welcoming and safe opportunities to play, learn, and build community while promoting responsible stewardship of the land. We promote healthy people, a healthy environment, and a strong community. Administrated by a small, dedicated full-time staff, the department utilizes seasonal part-time employees and strategic partnerships to operate its wide array of recreational programs. Upper Darby Recreation strives to continually provide wholesome, enjoyable, and beneficial activities to all members of our community.
The department processes and issues permits for parks, playgrounds, fields, and recreation areas within the township of Upper Darby.

Markcus Gill became the Assistant Director of Recreation in Upper Darby in June of 2022. Markcus is excited about bringing new Recreation programming to the community as well as being excited about the future in Upper Darby. Markcus has a passion for the community and about serving the community.
Markcus is a proud graduate of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, the Nation’s Oldest Historically Black College/University (HBCU), where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Recreation & Leisure Management in 2016. Markcus has also earned two Master’s degrees, a M.S. in Sport Management and a M.Ed in Health and Physical Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2020. Prior to working in Upper Darby, Markcus has worked at the University of Pennsylvania in their Campus Recreation department, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (now Saint Joseph's University) in their Campus Recreation department, and as a Health and Physical Education Teacher in the School District of Philadelphia at William H. Hunter School, where he taught for three years and sponsored after school programs in Soccer, U.S. Geography and History, and French.
Markcus is also a member of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Inc., becoming a member in April of 2020. He currently serves as the Secretary of the Gamma Chi Omega Alumni chapter which serves Delaware County.
Markcus is excited about working for his community.
