Position Concept:
Community liaison worker is a key member of the Township’s Community Policing program. The individual will act as a liaison to the residents of Upper Darby Township and represents Upper Darby Township Police in community affairs policing issues. Staff will actively seek referrals for students who are at risk of committing violent crimes. They will provide township residents with referrals for
resources.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
Under the direction of a Project Director, community liaison workers will interact with community members/resources, receive and process referrals, and provide programming to the youth.
They will work with the youth to develop personal goals and provide them with resources to achieve those goals.
The community liaison workers will check school attendance and grades in order to see if youth are on the right track.
These workers will also be the main communicators with the parents of the youth regarding the child’s progress.
Work closely with police officers, police administration staff and Township Administration in identifying community issues.
Act as a liaison between the residents of Upper Darby Township, the Police Department, the Mayor, the elected council members, the Township administration and other social service type organizations.
Perform any other related duties and/or assignments as may be required.
Position Requirements:
High school diploma, some college education preferred
Knowledge of Upper Darby Township, its neighborhoods, demographics and social services
Strong written and verbal skills, be able to address and make presentations to large public gatherings
Ability to work in environments that require conflict resolution, consensus and team building skills
Proven experience and ability to work with multicultural and socially diverse communities.
Must pass police background, state child abuse clearance, and federal clearances.
Conditions of Continued Employment/Assignment
The Community liaison may be required to successfully complete any mandatory external or in-house training as assigned by the Superintendent of Police. Additional training in relevant topics may be required.
Immediate Supervisor
The Community Liaison will report to the Community Policing coordinator. Both positions report to the Police Administration Division and reports directly to the divisional first line supervisor.
This position is subject to the standing Township rules and guidelines for non-bargaining employees.
Standard Working Hours Per Week: 30.000 hrs.
