National Police Week

National Police Week

The week of May 11, 2026, marks National Police Week. Which honors police officers who have died in the line of duty and those who are currently serving.

Upper Darby Township would like to thank all those who have and are serving especially our 138 brave and dedicated police officers who keep us safe each day.

We appreciate and recognize the risks these officers take each day they put on a uniform.

Your service is essential and critical to our Township and society.

Upper Darby Police Department Facebook Post:

This week in May, we honor the brave men and women in law enforcement during National Police Week. This week reminds us of the courage, sacrifice, and dedication behind the badge.

We honor all officers who continue to serve and protect our communities every day. We also remember the officers who gave their lives in the line of duty and made the ultimate sacrifice.

This week, we especially remember Officer Dennis McNamara #121 of the Upper Darby Township Police Department, who was killed in the line of duty on January 30, 2002. His service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Today, a wreath was transported to the memorial in honor of Officer McNamara. Our thoughts and prayers remain with all law enforcement officers and the families who continue without their loved ones.

Rest in Peace, Dennis.
