Are you age 60 or over and afraid of falling?
Join COSA at Upper Darby Senior Center for A Matter of Balance to learn to prevent falls.
A Matter of Balance is an evidence-based program proven to reduce the risk of falls among older adults. The Delaware County Office of Services for the Aging (COSA) in collaboration with the PA Department of Aging and Upper Darby Township is offering the program FREE to PA residents age 60 and older this winter at the Upper Darby Senior Center, 326 Watkins Avenue, Upper Darby, PA 19082 on Fridays from January 23rd through March 13th from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Every 20 minutes an older adult in the U.S. dies from a fall and that falls are the most common cause of traumatic brain injury. Many people do not know that fear of falling can become a self-fulfilling prophecy, putting us at an increased risk for falls. The good news is that participants can face their fears and learn what they can do to increase their physical strength, flexibility and balance and decrease their risk of falling by attending A Matter of Balance.
This once weekly, 8-session evidence-based program has been proven to help reduce the risk of falls among older adults. Registration is a must as space is limited to attend the program at Upper Darby Senior Center on Fridays from January 23rd through March 13th from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Contact COSA at 610-872-1383 or email williamse@co.delaware.pa.us. Please provide your name, address, and phone number to register.
