Upper Darby Township Receives Two Grant Approvals
Upper Darby Township has received approval for two grant awards from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA).
A total of $450,000 in funding has been awarded through the Pennsylvania Act 13 Programs, which allocate funds to municipalities and townships for special projects that enhance community infrastructure and quality of life.
The Darby Creek Upper Pedestrian Bridge, located along the Darby Creek Trail, has been awarded $250,000 for trail and bridge improvements. The funding will support enhancements to the new pedestrian bridge spanning 150 feet over Darby Creek, which links Gillespie Park to the trail system leading toward Kent Park, the Swedish Cabin, and the Creek Road area in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania. The bridge provides a paved trail segment for walking, biking, and outdoor recreation and is a key connection within the growing Darby Creek Trail network.
In addition, $200,000 has been awarded toward the transformation of a vacant lot at 3620 Garrett Road into a welcoming public space that will improve the drive-through and curb appeal of this business district by providing a welcoming place for shoppers, residents and visitors to meet, relax, and dine while helping to attract and retain local businesses.
Upper Darby Township Mayor Ed Brown commented on the grant awards:
“We are thrilled to be able to enhance the quality of life for our residents while also expanding our local business reach. Upper Darby Township has always been a great blend of wonderful homes, thriving businesses, and beautiful scenery. This state funding will go a long way toward building on our rich history and strengthening our community. I also want to thank Pennsylvania State Senator Tim Kearney as well as State Representatives, Heather Boyd and Gina Curry for their advocacy in helping to secure this funding for our community”.
