The Upper Darby Police Department welcomed five new officers on Friday, December 19, 2025.
Superintendent Tim Bernhardt did the introductions in front of a packed council chamber.
Upper Darby Mayor Ed Brown swore in Amirah Fields, Tylar Jenkins, Anthony Love, Jr, Carmen Maniaci, and Matthew Rowles, Jr. They are the latest officers to join the ranks of the Upper Darby Police Department.
Prior to her swearing in, Officer Fields served the last 6 years as a firewoman.
Officer Jenkins previously worked in cardiology and OBGYN at Jefferson Hospital. She comes from a long line of family members in law enforcement.
Officer Love graduated from Ridley High School in 2019 and spent the last 3 years with the Delaware County Sherriff’s Office.
Following his graduation from Bonner-Prendie, Officer Maniaci attended the Pennsylvania Sherriff’s Academy then joined the Delaware County Sherriff’s Office.
Officer Rowles is a second-generation Upper Darby Police Officer as his father, Matthew Rowles, Sr is a detective on the force. Matthew,Jr will wear his father’s badge number 32.
The latest round of hires brings the total number of officers in the Township to 138. The most in Delaware County.
Upper Darby Township is the sixth largest municipality in the state of Pennsylvania. There are more than 87,000 residents with approximately 100 languages spoken.
Superintendent Bernhardt praised both Mayor Brown and Chief Administrative Officer Crandall Jones for their support of the department and their care for the well-being of the residents of Upper Darby Township.
