Traffic Light at State Road and Edmonds Avenue

Update on Work at State Road and Edmonds Avenue

At approximately 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, October 5, 2025, a significant accident occurred at the intersection of State Road and Edmonds Avenue in Drexel Hill. A vehicle struck and knocked down the mast arm pole, causing permanent damage to the pole, arm, and most of the attached traffic signal equipment.

Upper Darby Township crews promptly responded to the scene, removing the damaged pole, securing all wiring, and installing temporary stop signs by 5:15 a.m. The intersection’s traffic lights were restored and fully operational by 12:00 noon that same day. Currently, the signal system is operating with side streets and pedestrian phases on recall. Please note there is no emergency preemption is no for southbound Edmonds Avenue currently.

Due to the extent of the damage, only a temporary restoration is in place. Over the next few weeks, the Upper Darby Township Department of Public Works will continue repairs to restore the pole and surrounding area to their original condition, ensuring resident safety and smooth traffic flow.

Updates will be provided through the Township’s website (www.upperdarby.org) and social media channels. For additional information or questions, please contact the One Center at (610) 734-7625.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we complete this important work.
