WHEREAS, the Upper Darby Township on this day partners with the Bangladesh Society of Pennsylvania and the Upper Darby organizing committee in observing the Bangladesh-American Friendship Parade and Cultural Festival on September 18, 2016.

WHEREAS, there are approximately 3,000 Bangladeshis in our community and this event invites municipal leaders, community organizations, and residents to come together and support Bangladesh heritage.

Whereas, since their independence in 1971 and their travel to the United States in the mid 1980’s the Bangladeshi community have settled in the Upper Darby community raising families , opening business , and becoming responsible members of our community. The community has worked tirelessly to preserve and develop their tangible and intangible heritage, recognizing the idea that Upper Darby Township is proud of our diverse community; and

Whereas, Upper Darby Township Council, and the Upper Darby Multicultural Diversity Committee, join me in celebrating the Bangladesh –American Friendship parade and cultural festival and we encourage all residents of our community to develop a fuller understanding of their cultural heritage.

Therefore, I, Thomas N. Micozzie, Mayor of Upper Darby Township, along with Township Council proclaim September 18, 2016:
