PROCLAMATION

Whereas, Peter and Cindy Bang immigrated from South Korea in November of 1971 with their two year old son. They lived in the Germantown area of Philadelphia arriving with just a little over two hundred dollars. With the help of a local church, they were able to get some basic necessities. Peter worked at odd jobs and Cindy worked as a nurse.

Whereas, Peter and Cindy started Fashion Mode at 77 South 69th Street (currently the Ross Dress for Less store) in the summer of 1973. Cindy quit her job as a nurse and began learning how to design wigs. Fashion Mode moved to 139 South 69th Street in the 1990s; the final move for the store is its current location at 211 South 69th Street.

Whereas, Peter and Cindy became United States citizens in 1975.

Whereas, Peter Bang was a prominent figure in the Korean-American community in Philadelphia, he was the president of the Korean American Chamber of Commerce for many years and has played an active role in the Korean American Society.

Whereas, Cindy Bang has worked tirelessly and with a joyful spirit at Fashion Mode for all of its forty-three years. Cindy loves the store and the customers. She not only greets the customers with a smile but also with hugs and pleasant conversations.

Whereas, Peter and Cindy have lived in Upper Darby Township for many years and plan on continuing.

Now, Therefore, I, Thomas N. Micozzie, Mayor of Upper Darby Township, along with Township Council proclaim April 20, 2016, as

in Upper Darby Township. I extend our sincere congratulations in honoring this dedicated individual in his service to the community. We wish them success in all their future endeavors.
