Black History Month Panel Discussion to Be Held in Upper Darby

Upper Darby, Pa. — Upper Darby Township will host a Black History Month 2026 panel discussion in recognition of the national theme, “A Century of Black History Commemorations,” marking the 100th anniversary of the first Black History Week established in 1926. The moderated panel will feature Mayor Ed Brown, Pennsylvania State Representative Gina Curry, and Upper Darby Police Lieutenant Laina Stevens to reflect on the legacy and impact of Black history commemorations over the past century and their continued importance today.

The event will take place on Wednesday, February 11, at 10AM at the Watkins Center, located at 326 Watkins Avenue, Upper Darby, PA 19082.

Black History Month is celebrated each February in the United States to honor the history, culture, and achievements of Black Americans.

Mayor Ed Brown is Upper Darby Township’s first African American mayor. Lieutenant Laina Stevens is the township’s first African American police lieutenant. Representative Gina Curry has served the 164th Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives since 2021.

The discussion will focus on progress made and the ongoing challenges faced by people of color in politics, law enforcement, and everyday life. The event will also include a question-and-answer session with attendees.

Light refreshments will be served.
