Mayor recognizes earth week initiative in Upper Darby:
Earth week began April 17, 2009 with a shredding day and bulb recycling at Beverly Hills Middle School. This effort, the first for Upper Darby, was a success. I would like to thank James Boothby of Home Depot for their donation and service. The week continued with tree plantings, dedication of a green house at Westbrook Park Elementary School, a proclamation at Primos Elementary School for Arbor Day and plantings around the Township.
The final day was the Mayorís call for cleanup day at all creeks, streams and valleys in the Township in coordination with the Darby Creek clean-up. Hundreds of volunteers cleaned, planted and trimmed Naylorís Run Park, Penn Pines Park, Muckinipates Creek in Secane and the hills and walking paths to and along our streams. Many groups, individuals and scout troops worked along with the Darby Creek Valley Association, the Marine Corps League and the Collen Brook volunteers. I, along with Council members Tom Wagner, Jean Koroly, Maryann Grace and Connie Darmiento, traveled to each location completing some tasks and assisting and personally thanking volunteers who came to assist in our Township wide effort.
On behalf of Upper Darby Township and Township Council, we thank each and every volunteer, student, scout and all who assisted in making earth week a success in Upper Darby Township.
