Delco Alert - July 29, 2021

Hello, this is Mayor Barbarann Keffer with some updates for the Upper Darby community:

This Tuesday, August 3rd, we are hosting a National Night Out event from 6 pm to 8 pm at the 69th Street Recreational Area. This free, family-friendly event, co-hosted by the Upper Darby Police and Fire Departments, will include games and activities, giveaways, and safety demonstrations. There will also be free food and drinks. Special thanks to Leandro’s Pizza for their generous donation. We are also eagerly anticipating the arrival of the JeffSTAT helicopter at 7 pm during this event.

As COVID-19 cases continue to rise and the Delta variant spreads, getting vaccinated is vitally important! It’s not too late to protect yourself and those around you and it is not too late to get your second dose if you have missed it. There are two vaccination clinics happening in Upper Darby the next two Sundays, August 1st and August 8th. The first location is the mosque, Masjid Al-Madinah, at 69th and Walnut, from 10 am to 12 pm. The second location is Tienda Don Pedro, at 53 Garrett Road, near the township building, from 12 pm to 2 pm. The vaccine is free, and no appointment or health insurance is required.

The goats from Amazing Grazing have returned! Yesterday, they arrived at Gillespie Park to remove invasive growth from the area. Poison ivy is reportedly their favorite. Utilizing goats for landscaping purposes is a widely-used, environmentally-positive practice that helps reduce erosion, fertilizes the soil and protects trees and wildlife. We are grateful to the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and the Delaware County Conservation District for the TreeVitalize grant that made this possible and is part of the streambank restoration project. The goats will be hard at work for the next 4 to 5 days. Please visit them and enjoy beautiful Gillespie Park.

This is Mayor Barbarann Keffer, wishing you a good evening.
