Join Chef Amaryllis Rivera Nassar, the proud owner of Amy's Pastelillos, as we celebrate the soulful essence of Puerto Rican cuisine through this special food demonstration. In this engaging demonstration, you will have the pleasure of learning various culinary techniques to prepare plantains. We will explore the diverse flavors and textures this humble fruit can offer. Each slice and sizzle will transport you to the vibrant streets of Puerto Rico, where the scent of ripe plantains fills the air.

Together, we'll delve into the rich tapestry of Puerto Rican culture, where the plantain holds a cherished place in our hearts and on our plates. Los Bomberos De La Calle will be performing their traditional and contemporary styles of Bomba & Plena music at the 2023 International Festival! They've performed events such as the annual Hispanic heritage festival in Philly, the annual feria de barrio festival, annual sugar cane festival, Kimmel center/songs left behind, The Mann center, and many more.

We are pleased to welcome the Shooting Stars back to the International Festival this year. This dynamic show choir performs across the Delaware Valley all year long featuring talented, energetic performers who share a variety of songs and dance while celebrating the power of an ensemble.

Indian Rangoli ColoringIndian Rangoli is a vibrant and intricate art form created during festivals and special occasions in India. It involves making colorful patterns on the floor using powders, rice flour, sand, or flower petals. This traditional art holds cultural and religious importance, believed to bring good luck and prosperity to homes while welcoming guests. Typically drawn at home entrances, it's a daily or festive ritual for some Indian mothers.




Create a message using Egyptian HieroglyphicsHieroglyphics, an ancient Egyptian writing system, utilizes symbols and pictures to represent words and sounds. It's akin to a secret code for recording information. While primarily linked with ancient Egyptians, similar systems were also used by groups like the Maya. Each symbol in this script is termed a hieroglyph.





African Adinkra Face Painting: Adinkra symbols, originating in Ghana, West Africa, were crafted by Asante artisans. They embody non-verbal communication, aesthetics, and the way of life of the Ashanti and Gyaman people.




Practice picking up items with chopsticks Chopsticks (Chinese: 筷子 or 箸; Pinyin: kuàizi or zhù) are pairs of sticks used for eating in East and Southeast Asia for over three millennia, held in the dominant hand to pick up food. Made of wood, bamboo, plastic, or metal, they are traditional utensils in China, Japan, Korea, and other parts of Asia.




Make and take Japanese Origami: Origami, originating in China with the invention of paper, involves folding a square sheet to create 3D shapes. When introduced to Japan, it became known as origami. It's a creative and enjoyable activity, transforming a simple paper into diverse shapes and objects.




Create a Mexican Papel Picado: Papel Picado is a stunning Mexican craft using colorful tissue paper to craft intricate designs. It's a traditional folk art seen in banners adorning various celebrations in Mexico, like weddings, birthdays, and holidays. Typically, it's hand-crafted using chisels and hammers.




Make and take paper lanternsPaper lanterns are illuminated decorative objects made of paper, often red to symbolize good fortune. They symbolize people shedding their past selves and embracing new ones, a cycle repeated annually.




Create a paper fanChinese fans were widely popular, representing status. Folding fans were favored by men of letters, feather fans by strategists and Taoist priests, circular fans by noble girls, and palm leaf fans by the general populace, showcasing a diverse fan culture in China.





Make your own flag: Children can decorate flags representing their Mother Country. Flags show that we belong to a community, organization or nation and that we share the same beliefs and goals and follow the same set of rules and regulations. Flags are national symbols. Every country flies a specific flag as their national symbol.





Learn to tie a head scarf: In modern usage, hijab generally refers to various head coverings conventionally worn by many Muslim women. While a hijab can come in many forms, it often specifically refers to a headscarf, wrapped around the head, covering the hair, neck and ears, but leaving the face visible.
