Upper Darby Recreation Youth Martial Arts Program
Upper Darby Recreation announces a Youth Martial Arts Program. This program is an introductory course, which explores many types of Martial Arts. It includes the basic concepts of fitness, forms, self defense, kicking, and others.
This one-hour course is available to boys and girls ages 8 to 15 years. It will be held on Tuesday evenings at 6:00 p.m. beginning February 5, 2008 thru March 15, 2008 . Fee is $60 (person. The course is available to first-time students only.
The course will be instructed by Daniel Pope, world champion Karate expert.
All classes will be held at the Daniel Pope Karate Institute, 88 Baltimore Pike, Lansdowne PA 19050.
Registration is being taken only through Upper Darby Recreation, 4820 Drexelbrook Drive , Drexel Hill PA 19026.

Upper Darby Recreation Women's Fitness Aerobic Kickboxing
Upper Darby Recreation will continue to offer the Women's Fitness Aerobic Kickboxing Program for the winter of 2008. This upbeat, exciting program, taught by renowned champion Daniel Pope has become extremely popular.
This program is geared to women 16 years and older who want to improve their cardiovascular fitness and achieve weight loss.
The course will operate on Tuesday evenings beginning February 5, 2008 and and continuing thru March 25, 2008 . Location is directly at the Daniel Pope Karate Institute, 88 Baltimore Pike, Lansdowne PA 19050. Fee is $60 ( person.

Upper Darby Recreation Adult "Walk - er - Cise Program"
Upper Darby Recreation announces its fall Walker-er-cise program for adult walking enthusiasts. This program is a combination of walking and exercise set to music in a safe enclosed environment. It is geared to all levels of adult walkers.
This class will be offered on Thursday evenings January 17, 2008 thru March 6, 2008 at the Drexel Hill Middle School gymnasium. Class time is 6:30 p.m. only.
Fee is $30(person. Class includes warm-up, walking to a beat, standing exercise, aerobic walking, stretch, and cool down.
All participants should wear comfortable clothes and supportive footwear.

Upper Darby Recreation Nerf Soccer Program
Upper Darby Recreation announces its 2008 Nerf Soccer Program. This is an indoor soccer clinic and league for boys and girls ages 5) 6) and 7. The program operates January thru March of 2008. It is held on Saturday mornings at Bywood) Hillcrest) and Stonehurst Hills Elementary schools. Participants are placed on teams. Instructional time as well as league play is involved. All teams play at each location. Registration is mandatory and proof of age is required to register. Fee is $40.00 per child which includes a team shirt. Space is limited.

COMMUNITY SWIM PROGRAM
The Upper Darby Department of Recreation and Community Services is pleased to announce its winter slate of aquatic activities at the Upper Darby High School Pool. An extensive array of lessons on all aquatic levels, as well as ample recreation swim times, will be offered for the winter season. Classes will be offered for infants, toddlers, youth, and adults, as well as popular special interest courses in Tiny Tots, and Lifeguarding Today.
"Tiny Tots", designed for infants through three years, will be held on Monday evenings. This is a "Hands-on" get-acquainted course involving both the child and the parent in the water. Tiny Tots utilizes toys, games, rhyme, and music to help students reach the comfort level in the water. The course takes place on Monday evenings beginning January 14, 2008 and runs in a series of seven lessons for $42.00.
Little People lessons start off the youth classes. Little People lessons, geared to children ages 4 - 7, are programmed to meet the needs of the youngster with little or no aquatic experience. These one-on-one lessons offer individual instruction and are 15 minutes in length. Emphasis is on breathing and stroke readiness. Classes are held on Saturday mornings, January 12 through March 8, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Eight classes for $48.00.
Pre-Beginner class is unique to the Upper Darby Pool. This course is designed for children who are beyond Little People lessons, but not yet ready for Beginner level work. Classes are kept to a maximum of six students. Times for the winter session will be 9, 10, 11, or 12 noon on Saturdays. Children must be able to stay afloat unassisted. Eight lessons for $48.00.
Red Cross Level III, IV, E1 V-VI will all be offered. These forty-five minute youth classes provide instruction in water familiarity, breathing, and stroke work, safety skills, and endurance, depending upon aquatic level. Youth classes are held on Saturday mornings beginning January 12 and continuing through March 8. The eight-lesson series fee is $48.00 per person.
A wide variety of lessons will also be available to adults. On Tuesday evenings beginning January, courses in Adult Beginner, Adult Advanced, and Water Workout will be offered. Whether you are strictly a novice, need to brush up on your skills, or want to have fun while losing inches, the Upper Darby Recreation Community Swim Program has a class to fit your needs! Try the Water Workout, open to both men and women! All classes run in a series of seven lessons.
Lifeguarding Today, the latest training course for prospective lifeguards, will be offered in the winter. Participants must be 15 years old and attend all classes. Prerequisites include 20-length swim and competency in front crawl, sidestroke, and breaststroke. CPR certification is also part of this comprehensive course. Fee is $225 per person. Class held on a combination of Wednesday and Friday evenings beginning with the screening test on Friday 1(18(08. Contact pool directly for specific dates and times.
Registration for all Upper Darby Community Swim Winter Lesson Programs will begin according to the following schedule:
Thursday, December 13, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Upper Darby Township Residents ONLY Friday, December 14, 1:30 - 4:00 p.m. Registration opens to all residents of Delaware County .
Proof of residency is required and must be presented in person at time of registration. Registration will continue on a daily basis and is in-person only.
Recreation swim times will also be continuing throughout the winter season.

Winter Ski Ticket Program
Upper Darby Recreation announces its popular winter discount ski ticket/tubing program. The department offers lift and tubing tickets at a substantial savings over the gate price of each location. Youth and Adult tickets are available for weekend, weekday, and night skiing.
Locations include: Jack Frost, Big Boulder, Blue Mountain, and Camelback Ski Area.
Tickets are sold on a cash only basis, at the Upper Darby Recreation Center Office, 4820 Drexelbrook Drive, Drexel Hill.

Adult Co-Ed Volleyball
League
The Upper Darby Department of Recreation Adult Co-Ed Volleyball
League is now forming for the fall season. The competitive league operates on Monday and Wednesday evenings beginning in September. All matches take place at Drexel Hill Middle School. Registration is by team only and is currently being taken. Interested team representatives should contact Sue Elder, Director of Leisure Services at 610-284-5860. Space is limited.
