FLAG DESIGN COMPETITION

Help create a flag that reflects the spirit, pride, and identity of Upper Darby.

About the Competition:

Upper Darby Township is inviting artists, students, and community members to submit original flag designs that can proudly represent our township. This competition is a chance to celebrate what makes Upper Darby unique and unite our community through a flag that is simple, meaningful, and community centered. Each submission must include an original design and a short explanation describing the symbolism or meaning behind the artwork.

Who Can Participate:

• Participants must be high school age or older.

• Each person may submit up to two designs.

• Participants under 18 must include a parent or guardian signature.

What to Submit:

• A digital flag design in an accepted file format.

• A short paragraph explaining the symbolism of the design.

• Basic contact information and township connection.

• Waiver and/or parental permission if required.


Rules & Guidelines

Competition Rules:

• Each person may submit up to two original designs.

• If the artist is under 18, a parent or guardian signature is required.

• All artwork must be entirely original and created by the participant.

• AI-generated artwork is not permitted.

• Stock images, clipart, templates, and copyrighted graphics may not be used.

• No text, lettering, complex seals, or use of the official Upper Darby Township seal.

• The design should be simple, clear, and easy to recognize.

• Use 3 to 5 colors when possible and make sure the design works as a 3 ft x 5 ft flag.

• Artwork should reflect Upper Darby in a positive and meaningful way.

• Artwork may not condone violence, disturb the peace, advertise a business, contain vulgar, profane, prejudicial, offensive, or insensitive content, or promote partisan political or religious messages.

• No compensation will be provided for submitted or selected designs.

• All designs will become the property of the Township in perpetuity and may be reproduced, adapted, or used for official purpose.


File Requirements

• Accepted formats: PNG, JPEG, PDF, AI, EPS, SVG, PSD, and high-resolution JPG.

• Raster files should be at least 200 dpi, preferably 300 dpi.

• Designs must be submitted digitally in high resolution.


Submission Checklist

• A review committee will evaluate submissions and select finalists.

• Finalist designs will be presented for public voting online.

• The final choice will combine committee review and public input.

1. Artist first and last name

2. Email address and phone number

3. Township connection (resident, student, etc.),

4. Short design explanation

5. Digital design file

6. Parental permission slip if required

7. Signed waiver giving the township ownership of the artwork.
