Mayor Declares Snow Emergency for Upper Darby Township
UPPER DARBY, Pa. – In anticipation of a major winter storm, Mayor Thomas N. Micozzie has declared a snow emergency for Upper Darby Township. This declaration is effective 7:00 PM Monday March 13, 2017 through 9:00 AM Wednesday March 15, 2017 Crews started preparing for the snowfall earlier today by applying brine to the emergency routes and hills.
Upper Darby residents must remember to move parked cars away from designated snow emergency routes until the emergency declaration expires. Violators will be subject to tickets and towing.
This emergency declaration will facilitate the township’s snow removal and plowing efforts. Removal of vehicles from snow emergency routes helps to reduce accidents involving parked cars on major arteries, which can place unnecessary, increased demand on the Upper Darby Police Department during the snow emergency. Residents are also asked not to shovel snow into the streets.
"We want to remind citizens to stay off the roads, unless absolutely necessary," said Mayor Thomas Micozzie. "Not only is it dangerous for drivers, but it also makes it harder for our dedicated snow removal crews to do their job."
Tuesday’s recycling in Zone 5 is cancelled; this area is predominately Westbrook Park, Secane, Primos, Hilldale, Penn Pines area.
Township crew’s will attempt to collected trash Tuesday in Area 2. Area 2 is mostly in the Highland Park area.
Please remember every reasonable attempt should be made to clear your sidewalk of snow and ice once the snow has stopped. Contractors are reminded that when clearing commercial parking lots they should not push snow into the highway. This is dangerous and illegal.
Residents can call the snow hotline at 610-734-7700 beginning 8:00 AM Tuesday March 14, 2017 through 11 AM Wednesday March 15, 2017.
