A full range of aquatic programming is offered at the district’s Olympic-sized pool, located on the Upper Darby High school campus. The pool is utilized for physical education classes, after-school intramurals, and interscholastic competition. Completely renovated in 2002, the natatorium boasts a state of the art timing system and upgrades throughout the facility.
In addition, the district’s popular Community Swim Program operates twelve months a year. The Community Aquatic Program has been recognized by The Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society as a recipient of the “Excellence in Programming Award”.
Servicing thousands in the community, a wide complement of swim lessons are offered year round for infants through adults. Instructional sessions in American Red Cross Levels II-VI are ongoing as well as special interest courses in Diving, Tiny Tots, and Little People. In addition, specialized certification programs are offered in Lifeguard Training, Water Safety Instruction, and CPR.
The natatorium is staffed by fully trained professional lifeguards with American Red Cross certifications and in-service training.
Delaware County residents and district employees are eligible for membership, recognized agencies and schools also rent the facility for group events, practices, and swim meets. Families take advantage of the special pool rental combos, which offer pool time coupled with the upstairs Community Room for birthdays and celebrations.
